Asia Pacific (APAC) is the world's largest regional travel market. With rapid infrastructure development across airports, seaports, railroads, hotels and highways, and disposable incomes on the rise, travel opportunity continues to expand regionwide. Aggregated total gross bookings for the 13 markets covered in this report were projected to reach US$418.1 billion in 2018, up 7% year over year.

China sets a high bar
In terms of total or online markets, travel segments or booking platforms, China's travel demand dwarfs other APAC markets, and continues to advance at a breakneck pace. China's online market is also on a tear. The proliferation of smartphones and digital payments has propelled the country's online travel market into the stratosphere. One in two travel dollars will be spent online in 2018, of which an astonishing 74% will be booked via mobile devices.

China boasts the world's largest mobile market with over 1.5 billion subscriptions. No surprise that every company in China adopts not only mobile-first strategies, but often mobile-only strategies. The mobile platform already accounts for most of China's online bookings, yet double-digit growth will continue as travelers gravitate to mobile because of special deals and discounts.
