Summary
Technology drives travel commerce, and travel and tourism is one of the largest industries in the world, supporting more than 255 million jobs and generating 9.1% in global gross domestic product. In an attempt to better understand how travel companies allocate their technology budgets, Phocuswright launched an online survey in October 2012 targeting senior executives across the industry. Although our sample size was small (37), respondents represented a broad cross-section of the marketplace. Survey participants included executives from top hospitality companies, online travel agencies (OTAs), travel management companies and global airlines. The sample size was not large enough to forecast overall travel technology spend, but the results provide insight into where travel companies are putting their tech dollars – which aren’t always the most strategic places.Analysts
