Summary
At first glance, "GDSs enable innovation" might sound like an oxymoron. But although global distribution systems (GDSs) have been slow to innovate in the past, they are definitely not down for the count. With new capabilities and fresh perspectives, GDSs are migrating from the cryptic-command green screen to modern user interfaces (UIs) and providing the tools to expand capabilities outside the walled garden that traditionally bound the travel agent’s access to information. Each GDS is creating its own unique initiatives. Amadeus has the Selling Platform Connect and its U.S. counterpart, Amadeus One. Sabre is deploying its Sabre Red Workspace. Travelport is betting heavily on its Universal Desktop, Universal API, Universal Profile and Universal Record. This spotlight analyzes the strengths and weaknesses of each of these efforts.
