Summary
Like most of the world, Australia and New Zealand began their recovery in 2021. Still, challenges remain ahead. Suffering a 58% downturn in 2020, a modest 13% rebound took hold in 2021. An uptick in domestic cross-state travel largely carried the initial restart. Stricter-than-most COVID regulations, coupled with rising costs, staffing shortages and lack of inbound international travel have inhibited a more robust recovery. While segments will recover at different rates, overall return to 2019 gross bookings totals is not expected until 2024.
This report provides a comprehensive view of the Australia-New Zealand travel market, including detailed market sizing and projections, distribution trends, analysis of major travel segments, key developments and more.
