Summary
Short-term rentals were already going mainstream before COVID-19. But while the pandemic had an initial crushing effect on the entire travel industry, STRs rebounded quickly and were propelled further into the spotlight as travelers sought out safer accommodations. Regional share of STR markets are still settling into place, following the disruptions of the past several years. Looking forward, challenges regarding rising ADRs, regulations, hotel competition and supply-demand match remain ever pertinent and will likely impact the segment’s future. Nevertheless, funding continues pouring into the STR space, and the post-pandemic trajectory projects stability in the near future.
