Summary
The in-destination industry, which comprises day tours, activities, attractions and related leisure experiences, has long been one of the largest and most important sectors in travel and tourism. Travel experiences represented $253 billion in global gross ticket revenue in 2019. But the pandemic and ensuing lockdowns on travel and leisure activities had a profound impact on the in-destination sector after a decade of remarkable growth, and 2020 revenue declined significantly compared to other travel segments.
Investors, operators and distributors need insights, benchmarks and data to understand this industry and where it is headed. The Outlook for Travel Experiences 2019–2025 is part of a joint research project with Phocuswright's and Arival that provides updated market sizing and forecasting for the in-destination industry by region, category (i.e., tours, activities, attractions) and distribution channel (online vs. offline points of sale).
