IATA’s New Distribution Capability (NDC) initiative gives airlines and their partners a way to replace EDIFACT connectivity standards that have been in place for decades. Through its control capabilities, NDC paves the way for airline-originated offer management. Similarly, IATA’s ONE Order defines modern order management, aiming to eliminate the multitude of arcane documents involved in a travel itinerary, instead replacing them with a single, unique customer-centric order record. How intermediaries adapt to these developments remains a key question.
This article addresses recent developments in NDC technology, with a focus on order management from both the airline and intermediary perspectives.
