Summary
Pity the poor passenger name record – the workhorse travel agency data file is in for a demotion. While the PNR is still reliable, it’s overweight, can’t learn new tricks, and comes with baggage. The PNR also doesn’t play well with others, including new systems and services that deserve a shot in the travel game.
A passenger name record is a flat data file that contains booking details, a snapshot of traveler profile information, and (potentially) a lot of miscellaneous remarks typed in by agents. A great deal of process engineering goes into making sure this information is in sync.
But is it worth the effort?
